Movie Review - War Chhod Na Yaar

Cast -SharmanJoshi,Javed Jaffrey,Soha             Ali Khan, Mukul Dev.
Produced By- AOPL Entertainment
Director By -Faraz Haider

Music By -Aslam Keyi
Dialogue-Deepak Kingrani
Story: Faraz Haider
Genre - Comdey,War.

“War Chhod Na Yaar” is based on Indo-Pak border issues. It shows how countries like China and America take advantage of such situations. Film creates curios and interesting moments but seems slow at times. Long and tiring climax is also one of the weak points of the film. This drama suggests in a simplistic ay that how the border issue can be easily resolved and it’s good for both the countries not to fight because nobody wins.

Captain Rana (Sharman Joshi) is a brave and intelligent guy who instead of fighting enjoys the relationship with the Pakistani soldier Captain Qureshi (Javed Jaffery) on India –Pakistan border. On the other side TV reporter Ruth Dutta (Soha Ali Khan) goes to the border for a secret coverage as being told by Prime Minister of India. She discovers a healthy relationship between Indo-Pak soldiers and tries to tries to find out a way to stop the battle supposed to happen in a near future.

The dialogues of the film are thought provoking but the romance between Rana and Ruth seems unconvincing. They just fall in love in no time. Sharman Joshi plays his role responsible well. Javed Jaffery is also good in his part. Dalip Tahil plays four roles in the film which are P.M. of both India and Pakistan while the other two are president of US and Premier of China. This reminds me of Kamal Hassan in Dasavathaaram; although things are quite different it. Soha Ali Khan looks charming; she has improved her performance with time.

Verdict: - Interesting topic makes it a bit engaging but doesn't go beyond a certain extent. Hence, remains an average watch.

Movie Review -The Lunchbox

Movie Review -The Lunchbox
Release date – 20'th September 2013

One Word which describes the film – Wistful

Best Dialogue  – 'Kabhi kabhi galat train bhi sahi jagah pahuncha deti hai '

Genre – Romance

Writer- Ritesh Batra

Music – Max Richter

Direction Ritesh Batra

Cast - Irrfan Khan , Nimrat Kaur , Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Budget - 10 crores

The film is an Indian version of the 1998 hit Hollywood film ' You've Got Mail '.
In the film the heroine says a line , 'People are always telling you that change is a good thing .But all they're really saying is that something you didn't want to happen at all ,has happened.'
This film is also about changes . A man who is about to retire and a lonely housewife exchange small notes through a lunchbox and develop a strong bond . The woman is young and is ready to take steps which can totally change her life but the man who is old enough to be her father has his doubts.

The direction of the film is it's finest point. It's really commendable that how with just 3 characters and a voice the director manages to present a story which makes the audience identify with the characters. We feel the fear of an about to retire man who was so engrossed in his work and daily life that he never realised that he has grown old. We feel sad for the housewife whose husband has lost interest in her and pays more attention to his cell phone .

Irrfan Khan has played the role of a much older man with such ease that you forget the actor , you only see him as Mr. Fernandez .
Nimrat Kaur gives strong competition to Irrfan and it's difficult to decide who has given a better performance.
Nawazuddin is an amazing actor and though he has a vital role in the film ,this story isn't about him.

After a totally detailed sketch of Mumbai dabba system and local trains the abrupt climax was a bit disappointing .

Verdict - In a line the film is about how sometimes the small things can bring a big change in your life and it's better to take risks at time than to lead a mundane life .

Movie Review - GRAND MASTI

Movie Review - GRAND MASTI

Release date – 20'th September 2013

One Word which describes the film – Grand Gross

Grossest Dialogue – The principal of a college named SLUTS pulls down the boxers of a guy called Harddick and says,
' Isse kehte hai naam bade aur darshan chhote.'

Genre – Adult Comedy

Writer- Milap Zaveri , Tushar Hiranandani

Music – Anand Raj Anand , Sanjeev Darshan

Producer- Ashok Thakeria , Indra Kumar

Budget - 31 crore (Including print and advertising)

By now you all must be knowing that a film criticized and shunned by all and sundry has become the highest grosser among the films with an ‘A’ (Adults only) certificate at the Box Office beating the lifetime record of 'The Dirty Picture' (85 crores).

This has made the producers and directors quote on National TV that the audience is hypocrite , they call a film vulgar and then enjoy it too.

In an interview the producer Ashok Thakeria said that the magnitude of success of Grand Masti has taken them all aback . ' We are definitely going into Masti 3 right away. The first sequel took us nine years to make. The second sequel will come in much less time and will be far more sexy raunchy and in-your-face. The audience loved our sense of humour. We will give them a lot more of everything.”

Milap Jhaveri says , The USP of part 3 would be the same as part 2. Mad, naughty, crazy, and risqué humour.”

Indra Kumar said on Zoom that the main reason behind the grand success of the film is that no one till now has made a film on adult jokes . ' I took a collection of jokes from internet and my phone and converted it into visual form. We all are aware of this type of humor and share it everyday with our friends so what's the harm in showing it on the big screen ?'

All these arguments from the makers of the film made me think on what next ? Till what extent will Meet , Amar and Prem go in the 3'rd part to show the plight of married men ?
They taught us the meaning of A , B, C to F here , will the sequel decode the remaining alphabets too ?

An edited version of Grand Masti has been submitted to the censor board for satellite and television screening. The main point is once they remove the offensive content will the movie last even 30 minutes ?

In a line even though the film has been declared a box office hit surpassing the 100 crores mark , it's just a collection of adult jokes which you must have read and shared a 100 times .

Verdict - Definitely Not for Family Audience,  Not to be seen with family or kids .

Review -
Sanjay Gupta is known for his dark thrillers { Kaante (2002),Musafir (2004) ,  Zinda (2005) } but this time he has come up with a film so full of violence , cuss words and sex that it can be considered as Bollywood's answer to XXX Films.

This movie is based on the  Hussain Zaidi's book "Dongri to Dubai", the film's plot centers around the rise of international terrorist Dawood Ibrahim and his rivalry with gangster Manya SurveThis movie is based on the  Hussain Zaidi's book "Dongri to Dubai", the film's plot centers around the rise of international terrorist Dawood Ibrahim and his rivalry with gangster Manya Surve. The film is mainly focuses on the first ever police encounter and outlines the gang wars as it culminates into a three-way epic face-off between the gangsters,  Manya Surve , Haskar brothers and Mumbai police.Wherein  Manya Surve was shot dead, This incident  took place at the junction next to Dr. Ambedkar college, WadalaMumbai on 11 January 1982.Thus the name ‘ShootOut at wadala’.

Sanjay Gupta who has returned to direction after 8 years has left no stone unturned to make this film a commercial hit. He even took the creative liberty to use the real names involved in the incident to his characters.

The main strength of the film is it's powerful dialogues written by Milan Zaveri . Every character has a couple of lines which make the audience whistle and clap for them .

John Abraham, as the main protagonist of the film gets the best dialogues , best action sequences and the chance to romance the sole heroine in the film Kangana Ranaut . Though in the start his dialogue delivery is flat but as he works on building his body in the prison there is also some improvement in his acting. So there are actually claps from the audience when he says 'haddi se lekar kanoon tak, sab todta hoon'

Manoj Bajpai and Sonu Sood are perfect for the role of  Haskar brothers. They represent style and power with hidden cruelity which is shown when they kill another gangster with fruit juicer.

Anil Kapoor as the police officer  who wants to get the city rid of gangsters has given an action  packed performance .He looks fit and smart and makes us wish there were more police officers like him in real life.

Sanjay Gupta's passion for perfection can be seen when he spends over Rs 2 crores only on shooting one sequence featuring an old BEST bus from the 70s. “The sequence would have cost us under under a crore, but we had to get a vintage bus which was not available and even when we managed to get one, it wasn’t allowed to enter Mumbai city. Because of that we had to shoot the sequence outside the city, which tripled our budget and we ended up spending more than Rs 2.6 crore,” said Gupta in an interview.

There are  three  item songs, where  Sunny Leone , Priyanka Chopra and Sophie Choudhry  seem to compete with each other in showing the maximum cleavage and doing the most provocative steps.

Rating - 2.5 out of 5

Best  Dialogue –
' Baadshah ki gali mein aake uska pata nahin poochhte. Ghulamo ke jhuke hue sar khud ba khud raasta bata dete hain.'

Verdict-
In a  line if you are over 18 and like gangster flicks there is no reason for you to avoid this film.
Good one time theater watch .

Review of Besharam

Review of Besharam

Release date – 2'nd October 2013

Best Dialogue  – ' Ye khoon kharaba apna style nahi ,ye to sirf apna talent batana tha. '

Genre – Comedy / Romance

Writer-Abhinav Kashyap , Rajeev Barnwal

Music –Lalit Pandit

Producer- Himanshu Mehra , Sanjeev Gupta

Budget - 80 crores (including print and publicity)

When a film has a startcast of Ranbir Kapoor ( whose last films were  Rockstar ,Barfi!  &  Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani ) and Rishi Kapoor who gave powerful performances in  D-Day , Aurangzeb and  Shuddh Desi Romance  you start expecting a lot from it.
What the film actually delivers , is a story taken straight away from old films , poorly written screenplay and dialogues, too many songs and dances, weak characters and a lead pair who share zero chemistry .

Abhinav Kashyap who made his directorial debut in 2010 through Dabangg has totally antagonized the audience with his second film .The full blame for this nonsense in the name of action/romance /comedy lies on his shoulder as not only he wrote the story he also wasted talented actors like Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh in roles where they had nothing to do.
Ranbeer Kapoor, who is the current heart throb is made to wear cheap clothes ,use lame lines and act like a buffoon in most of the film. Even Kashyap's girlfriend and leading lady of the film , Pallavi got no preferential treatment. Though she is a manager who drives a Mercedes she wears ' Globus' kind of clothes( bought during sale period) and has no dialogues or chance to show her acting skills .

The tag line of the film is 'Na samman ka moh , na apman ka bhay'. Sorry, Mr Kashyap but this film has nothing for which you will receive a single word of praise or appreciation.

The film was released in 3600 screens and because of Ranbeer Kapoor's popularity it made an opening day collection of 20 crores .Ranbir Kapoor must have realised  that he made a blunder in choosing to act in this film as he took no interest in promoting the film in Mumbai or any other cities.

In a line, the 3 Kapoors together have given such a 3'rd class film that in future I would rather watch a movie starring the 3 Bachchans (Sarkar Raj) or 3 Deols (Apne) .

Verdict - Avoid it , even Ranbir Kapoor's Fans should avoid it. Wait for  its TV premier.
